About Saddhamma Foundation

The Saddhamma Foundation is a Buddhist non-profit organization formed in the early 1990's to support the Venerable Sayadaw U Pandita in his efforts to encourage and support the teachings of the Dhamma throughout the world. Sayadaw U Pandita is now considered one of the leading authorities in the practice of Satipatthana as taught by his instructor the late Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw. He possesses extensive knowledge in both the theory and practice of Samatha and Vipassana meditation.

Sayadaw U Pandita serves as the spiritual advisor to retreat centers, monasteries, and Buddhist organizations throughout the world. Since 1951, he has traveled to many countries to lead meditation retreats. Formerly the head "abbot" of Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha, he is now the Ovadacariya Sayadaw (head "abbot") of Panditarama monastery in Yangon, Myanmar.

The Saddhamma Foundation has facilitated retreats for Sayadaw U Pandita in the United States and Myanmar (Burma). Since 1995 we have also worked to help develop the Panditarama Forest Meditation Center outside Yangon, Burma. These efforts culminated in the 1998 International Inaugural Retreat. There is now a 60 day winter retreat given each year at the center.

Each year, over 100 meditators from over 20 countries attend the annual retreat.
