Burma Needs Your Donations Now!

Because of the recent disaster and ongoing crises in Burma, Saddhamma Foundation is raising badly needed funds for the Panditarama forest and Gant Gaw Myaing monasteries.

The monasteries are a refuge for the lay Burmese
The monks and nuns provide an uplifting influence that is central to the people's wellbeing. Thousands of Burmese people and foreigners from all over the world have visited the monasteries to receive guidance from the highly trained teachers.

Gant Gaw Myaing monastery
Over 50 novice monks between the ages of 12 and 23 live and study at this center which gets its name from an unusual tree which flowers out of season in the main courtyard. We have known the abbot, the Venerable Sayadaw U Sasana, since 1997 when he first visited the United States to teach meditation with Sayadaw U Pandita. He is a caring, dignified, and wise monk who lovingly teaches and nurtures the novices at his center and the yogis who seek him out as a meditation teacher.

Panditarama Forest Center
We wish we could fully convey how extraordinarily generous and supportive the Burmese have been ever since we began working with them to develop the Panditarama Forest Center. For example, foreign yogis are truly welcomed as family, and the monasteries provide meditation instruction, room, and board free of charge.

Food prices have more than doubled and fuel has tripled
Monks and nuns totally depend on lay people for their food and other material needs. Unfortunately, this recent crisis will drastically reduce the laity’s ability to donate funds to the monasteries. International support will ensure that in these extraordinarily difficult times, these monasteries can continue to spiritually support the people.

Our initial fundraising goal for food, medicine and rebuilding is $75,000
However, we anticipate the ongoing needs will be much higher. Every penny we receive will go directly to the needs of these monasteries in Burma. We plan to carry the donations ourselves, so we can distribute them directly. Every penny we raise goes to support these monasteries essential needs.
