Sixty Day Retreat at the Panditarama Forest Center

December 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013

This annual meditation retreat is an opportunity to practice intensive mindfulness and insight meditation under the guidance of Sayadaw U Pandita and some of his principal disciples. It is a rare opportunity to practice satipatthana vipassana meditation with living Buddhist meditation masters at a supportive Burmese meditation center.

Last year’s retreat was full, so we recommend applying as soon as possible.

Sayadaw U Pandita Giving Talk at the Panditarama Meditation Center

Latest Dhamma Center News

January 2011 - We recently returned from the Panditarama Forest Meditation Center where the annual sixty day retreat was underway. This year there were around 135 yogis from 20 different countries.

Sayadaw U Pandita is approaching 90 years old but shows little signs of slowing down. He continues to give daily Dhamma talks and oversee the functioning of the center. Additionally, he finds various ways to support the monks, nuns and yogis in their spiritual development.

The center has matured beautifully. The trees have grown tall and the landscaping creates a peaceful environment for meditation. The tropical environment and the complexity of such a large center add many challenges to maintaining the high standards that the center strives for. But somehow, the monks, nuns, and volunteer staff manage it. This year, improvements included a refurbished clinic, a new solar power system, and a modernized dishwashing facility.

Pagoda Yangon Burma

Annual Dhamma Family Gathering

In early February 2010 and again 2011, the Panditarama Meditation Center in Yangon held the Panditarama Dhamma Family Gathering. The meeting was an opportunity for Sayadaw U Pandita’s followers from Burma and abroad to gather for Dhamma talks and discussions about our Sasana work.

Representatives from Panditarama Meditation Centers in Myanmar, the United States, England, Australia, Nepal, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore spoke about their meditation centers. The Gathering highlighted Sayadaw U Pandita’s supportive and inspiring leadership, which has contributed to the successful establishment of meditation centers around the world. It was also an opportunity for the senior monks to meet and discuss how to continue Sayadaw U Pandita’s Dhamma mission.

The Panditarama Meditation Center in Yangon will hold this annual Family Gathering each February following the retreat at the Forest Center.

Panditarama Novice Monks

2009-2010 Health, Nutrition and Dana Projects

With your generous support, we provided purified drinking water at the Panditarama Forest Center, gave donations to increase the amount and quality of food served daily at the Forest Center and the Gant Gaw Myaing Monastery, and supported the training of novice monks. Some project highlights:
  • To ensure purified drinking water is available at the Forest Center, Saddhamma Foundation donated a total of $6,000 between 2008 and 2010. These funds helped supply the center with purified water until the beginning of 2011.
  • Saddhamma also gave $4,500 to support the novice monks at the Forest Center.  A portion of this donation helped refurbish the center’s water storage system, including the cisterns the monks and novices use for bathing and cleaning.
  • Saddhamma also donated over $10,000 to Sayadaw U Sasana for his novice training center and small meditation center.

Sayadaw U Pandita's Timeless Wisdom

"Timeless Wisdom" by Sayadaw U Pandita

In 2010, Saddhamma volunteers helped one of Sayadaw U Pandita’s Sri Lankan students prepare a new book about Satipatthana Vipassana Meditation called "Timeless Wisdom." The book is based on Sayadaw U Pandita’s Dhamma talks given at Tathagata Meditation Center in the United States in 2009.

Throughout 2011, we will be working on a second English edition of U Shwe Aung’s wonderful book, "The Buddha: Peerless Benefactor of Humanity".  An earlier English edition of this title has been available in Burma since the 1990s.  We will distribute our upcoming re-edited edition for free as Dhamma Dana.

Books about Buddhist Meditation by the Venerable Sayadaw U Dhammajiva

Saddhamma Foundation helped edit two books about mindfulness and insight meditation by the Venerable Sayadaw U Dhammajiva of the Mitirigala Forest Meditation Center in Sri Lanka. U Dhammajiva trained with Sayadaw U Pandita as well as one of Sri Lanka’s foremost meditation masters. These books, "In This Life Itself" and "Towards an Inner Peace" are now available online for free downloading. We strongly recommend them to anyone who is earnestly interested in Buddhism and Buddhist meditation.
